i have to disagree with AWN in some ways in terms of the highschool rankings...they appear to be a bit too excited about all the PA and OH wrestlers and have one total MN wrestler in all of the rankings...that either has to come from favoritism or from lack of knowledge each of which I would have to say taints there rankings...

I think they all have good and bad points, good and bad weeks, good and bad weights and you get the picture.

I won't say what I think, I will say there are two or three I respect, that is it.
I know for a fact that many, many wrestlers are ranked at weights they couldn't make if they were on their death bed starving to death. I also know of others who aren't ranked high enough at all. Justin Kerr, and Jasaon Bryant at least do their homework. I have seen over 1/2 of the kids ranked at between weights of 103 - 125 wrestle this year, many others at heavier weights. I challenge that many of the ranking services have no idea. A point in example is that Kansas gets virtually no respect, even our double Champion Cotton has gotten little respect, as have very few of our other wrestlers who have had outstanding years, and outstanding seasons at Fargo. From Disney, to Cotton, and from Ely, to Beard or Caldwell and I could name several others. Ah shucks, talk about not saying anything and then I get all messed up. Bottom line wrestlers have to keep proving it on the mat, it's a sad thing when they do and rankers don't recognize what they have done.
As to who is best, give me Intermat and Rev any day of the week.

Intermat by far.
AWN doesn't recognize much of anything west of the Mississippi.

I couldn't do rankings. I have no where near enough knowledge and would NEVER have enough knowledge.
Know what? I don't have enough knowledge to even rank the ranking services let alone the exact order of best wrestlers of 10,000 friggin teams. But you read the back and forth between two posters, one who knows that this #6 should be #3 and another disagrees. Both will offer scads of back-up facts ranging from folkstyle to freestyle to greco to Major tournaments to minor off-season stuff to Fargo to Reno to BF Egypt.
A typical case in point from Themat this morning: "Mashkow also 4th at Junior folkstyle nationals, and majored Santaite 8-0 at delaware duals 2 springs ago in their only meeting"
I doubt that too many people know the results of the delaware duals two springs ago. A few more may know that delaware had duals two springs ago. On the other hand, many may know (let's hope) that there was a spring two years ago.
By comparison the BCS as bad as that is is much clearer and easier. Look at the disagreement on Michigan vs. Florida for the National title game. That's one game where all contests are equal. Move to wrestling and you have all the contests, that are factored in, not being played under the same rules, thus having to be assigned "weights". In fact unless it's plain old duals between two teams, none of the contests are equal in wrestling. This goes for both team and individual rankings. It simply cannot be done in any rational fashion.
Conclusion: Rankings are fundmentally, at their core, irrational. That doesn't mean they can't be approximately correct in certain ways, it means that the process will always be flawed because it's the nature of the beast. Overracting to elements contained in rankings becomes even more irrational. So eveyone with intimate knowledge (much more than any ranker would be congnizant of) of some wrestlers throw their 2 cents in.
When I offered an opinion above it was actually a (very minor) tweak at Jason only because I couldn't even find Intermat's latest rankings on their website.

Here is a question for the rankers, what do you use to do your rankings? Also regarding weights for wrestlers, how do they get those. For example, I know a kid ranked at 112, actually 3 that will never see 112 again, one of those is actually ranked at 103 and will never see, or couldn't make it if they were dying, two of those are barely making 119.
I do know that Jason does his homework, I know of a lot of others who have no idea. But the above questions are what I think appropriate.

I like the one's that have the most PA teams and wrestlers ranked. I don't care for the way AWN's ranker carries himself on the forums so they get last place. SO if AWN ranks the most PA guys and teams, I've got myself a bit of a dilemma.
