A PUNDIT B EXPERT C GURU D ANALYST
I like D, "wrestling analyst", best. There's probably other useful words besides writer (blah) or ranker (ugh).

I find national rankings absurd.
I don't even appreciate state rankings in PA.
The rankings can tell you what side of the state the rankers are from.

Ground, Depends on which state. When I did the Group AA state rankings in Virginia, I was a recent graduate from a very prominent AA high school and some people thought that made me biased towards them, when in actuality, I had to keep too much of an eye on my former teammates that they wouldn't be too high to prevent 'bias calls' -- that waned after a year when I just started "calling it like I saw it" -- based on results and the wrestling worked the rankings out.
Much like I do now, I would travel all over Virginia announcing HS tournaments and getting to watch as much wrestling as possible. Now, I don't announce near as much as I used to (that's actually my first passion, being behind a micraphone), but in my honest opinion, seeing a broader base of competition helps more than anything else. Seeing styles, kids and head-to-head matchups first hand tell you more than the score can in a lot of ways.
National Rankings are what they are -- demanded. It's probably the one task I dislike the most, but put more time into it than any other.
Then again, I'm still in the office at 8 p.m.

I don't give a flying leap about forum behavior. Are you kidding me? The facts are that AWN rated 18 PA wrestlers top 12 all-class, while Intermat rated ONLY 16. Bias against PA? Bah humbug. Bias against Kansas? Double humbug. While we are at it, a pox on a couple of Ohio fans for giving Jason a hard time, on another forum, for his ranking of Foore vs. Roddy. That was a joke, especially when one insisted that he, Jason, had some kind of pro-PA or anti-Ohio bias or some such nonsense. Intermat's and AWN's rankings of Ohio wrestlers were remarkably close. Each ranked 30 Ohioans in their top 12, with Jason's average Ohioan ranking about 5.5 nationally and AWN's about 5.9. As you can see, Intermat actually showed more love for Ohioans (by a slight margin) than AWN. As I have said, going tilt over rankings is stupid. Ascribing ulterior motives to rankers, such as greed, is unfair and offensive. I don't really know why you resurrected this topic but yes, since I don't really care much for rankings other than passing curiosity, I rank the rankers based on what I know of them. I kid you not about that. I couldn't care less about the rankings because most of the kids have either not met or met in freestyle or greco and I only care about folkstyle. Therefore they are nothing more than someone's guess. However, I can respect someone who can defend their rankings on a national forums without resorting to childish tactics and name calling and when they aren't obvious cheerleaders and are reasonably consistent. I involved myself in none of the discussions you are referring to but did read "some" of them. I suggest you take up your disagreements with those that actually made those disagreeable statements. The Kansas stuff...I don't even know what your talking about. My original response on this thread was somewhat facetious in that I do actually follow PA teams and like to see them ranked and individuals ranked.

My apologies KC,
Most of my sanctimonious blather wasn't aimed in your direction (or Jason's).
"I don't really know why you resurrected this topic"
Because the intermat rankings have (finally) come out.
"I suggest you take up your disagreements with those that actually made those disagreeable statements."
I have. They pay no attention to me. I come here to cry about it.
"The Kansas stuff...I don't even know what your talking about."
For Mike.
"I do actually follow PA teams and like to see them ranked and individuals ranked."
Hell. Someone has to.

No apologies needed. I know some of the PA posters spew some venom. I think they go too far as well.

If you are the same guy, you used to write some good, balanced, and diplomatic commentary in religious threads in the NWT section. That's what I remember. With a memory like this, I don't know whether to take the rest of your comments seriously or not.

"false association buddy"
Not if it started as a hypothetical:
"If you are the same guy," etc.
In that case you simply deny it, which you did (I think).
"I sure as hell care"
It's nothing to have a coronary over.
