FWIW, this is my favorite thread of all-time on any board I have ever been on, including probably 30,000 posts and a thousand plus threads. And it isn't even a close call.

What an incredible match. I think the NK is the quickest wrestler I have ever seen.

thanks guys. i'm glad you are all enjoying them.
i am posting these matches because, thanks to youtube, i can now share some of my favorites with you as they showcase a wide variety of technique and styles, but most of all to create more exposure to this great sport that appears to be on the decline in the US. people need to see these matches, especially the older ones where the rules favored action and produced higher scores.
for those who are now accustomed to the newer rules and haven't had the opportunity to see wrestling from the 80s, here's your chance. i'd be interested in to hear your feedback.
old or new?

quick,
I have seen some matches of Russians from European championships this year and it seems they still try to score a lot.
I think "the new rules suck" approach is just an American thing.

yes i have every match from this year's Euros and for the most part the action was quite good. the Saitiev's were a pleasure to watch as were most of the other Russians and a few others.
it was a far cry, however, from our Nationals and WTT where it was like watching paint dry.
i would say that the Russians still get after it in spite of the rules.
in another match from the 1981 World Cup, Howard Harris and Sanasar Oganesyan put like 18 points on the board after the first period. you won't see that today.

quick,
I think wrestling has evolved regardless of rules where wrestlers just don't take turns falling on their backs every 20 seconds anymore.
I think with the evolvement of video tapes and DVDs it is much easier for wrestlers to learn and understand new technique. Before 1980s there was no such opportiunity for most countries.
