Finally got to see the movie I've been waiting for forever. I thought it was pretty good. It wasn't as good as Gladiator, but it was still a good movie worth seein.

Does it have a decent plot ? That's the glue the held Gladiator together. That and a lot of great acting from a lot of good character actors, Crowe too.
...and great writing.

That could be possibly due to the whole staying awake for 36 hours and a lot of boring previews...i did wake up before it was to much in to the movie though....

I saw it and loved it. It was exactly what I thought it would be and I would see it again.

i agree...it was actually not totally historically correct as most movies based on history aren't but i watched a special on the History Channel about the Battle of Thermopolae and it certainly caught the historical perspective as well as the sacrifice the Spartans made there...in the real history, the Athenians did not leave the battle as was shown in the movie, they all stayed and died together...there was also one helacious sea battle as well going on at the time that the Spartan Mariners were equally to the task when outnumbered by the Persians...
All in all an above average film with good plot and well acted in my opinion...I really like the way that the movie was shot with the color and a lot of morning/dusk shots...very cool...
Oh yeah, the Queen and the Oracle of Delphi have killer bodies if that was even important...

Perhaps the biggest fact the movie is not all accurate.
Women a long time ago did not look good by today's standards. Being chubby was considered ideal.

The movie is based on a comic book you chubby bastard.
It made no pretenses of being 100% historically accurate, its based on real events, and contains characters who did actually exist, but that is the extent of it..

If anyone goes to the 300 web site they say right there that the film is loosely based on the historical event and 100% based on the Graphic novel. Maybe I liked it so much because I wasnt looking for anything that wasnt going to be there. I went to see action and killing coupled with the killer graphics and a few good one liners. I agree with Mike that the historical account would make a great movie without all the extra's

I think the entertainment value is summed up when the audience is laughing during the post-battle scene when the Spartans are walking around putting the Persians out of their misery with a spear while the King is munching on an apple.
