I think the entertainment value is summed up when the audience is laughing during the post-battle scene when the Spartans are walking around putting the Persians out of their misery with a spear while the King is munching on an apple. and to add to that the king says to his captain, "i will go and speak with the entourage, i don't know why we can't be civilized" and turns and throws the apple to the messenger while the captain turns and jams the spear through another dying persian... it was classic!

Gopher, If I remember correctly the Thespians didn't actually fight, they only pretended to do so!

Saw this last night, on IMAX, amazing. I guess the movie could be summed up in one word: badass. I liked when Leonidas said he couldn't kneel to Xerxes because his legs were cramped from killing Persians all day.

I heard a local movie critic on the radio say it was very xenophobic, and western jingoistic, and it made you feel like signing up for the crusades after the film. He said some positive things too, but I guess this piece of criticism (I know just what he's talking about) will probably discourage me from seeing it anytime soon.
A guy I work with, whose into military stuff, thought it was a great movie.

Matclone, Being as no one was more zenophobic then a Greek (if you weren't from their city state you were no good) that criticism makes sense. being the Greeks were defending the West against th East, that criticism makes sense. I don't buy the Crusades bit. I do wish I was in Greece when this movie opened though!
