Well, hats off to the kid. But it sounded like he picked down and got broke. He is gonna have to try to open it up more next go around and create his own opportunities. I bet he will.
As far as Zimmer goes. No interested programs? That is insane.
Indiana's tournament is very difficult to navigate and it effectively separates the talent from the average wrestler. You can't have just a good weekend or two and slide into state placement. You have to go through sectional tournament, regional tournament, semi-state tournament, and then get through a first round matchup at state just to place.
In NY, they have a section tournament and then you are wrestling at state. Granted, big programs only pluck out the champs and multiple champs, but still. In PA, they offer all types of opportunity if you are even close to being a champ.
Programs should be looking hard at Semi-state champions and placement winners at state. These are very talented kids who can pull through a very tough tournament. Someone is letting Zimmer go. He will get a great education at Notre Dame, but damnit.
