Even with the kind of 1st period final he had? Surprising....

It's hard not to give it to a guy that dominating. I think 29 falls in a season speaks for itself.

I counted them up last night, and I think he actually only had 23, but that was still enough to lead the country, and therefore win it.
Edit: I just looked at the article and it appears as though he did wind up with 29. I did think 23 seemed a little low, I remember back in January that people said he had 21. Oh well.

Are they counting tech falls? Unless the Tiger website omitted quite a few bouts, 29 is an error.

29 true falls. 15 in a row..........plus techs and majors..........a great season adn no surprise that he repeated as Hodge winner IMO.
I think that this should put to rest all comparisons between CP and BA as to there college careers.............

Its an interesting comparison...
Pendleton: 115-11 3x Finalist, 2x Champ. 32 falls. 7-1 v. Askren Askren: 153-8 4x Finalist, 2x Champ. 91 falls. 1-7 v. Pendleton
I tend to agree with you TLV. I think Askren's additional AA, additional finals appearance, and the fact that he pinned almost three times as many people takes precedence over the fact that a Jr/Sr Pendleton owned a Fr/Soph Askren. However I can see the other side too.

Thanks for sharing this news, Shane.
I know that the Hodge award has been around now for more than a decade, but I really can't pin down what the exact criteria is for determining a winner. It's not as if the recipient had the most pins or most wins. Perhaps it's based on generalized factors -- a "feeling" of the WIN magazine folks as to who was the best college wrestler that year. Sort of like the editors of People magazine sitting around in a conference room with beer and Cheetos, picking this year's "Sexiest Man Alive." (Which is their selection process.)
I remember some controversy in the past when Nick Ackerman was co-winner (with Cael) in 2001... and when Emmitt Willson won in 2004, since neither was a Division I wrestler.

How many falls did Konrad have, and how many forfeits? I'd like to know how close the voting was with him and BA. You know you're pretty dominating when a guy forfeits to you in a tournament. (that was a pretty bs move though)

Askren may not have had the forfeits Konrad had, but you have to keep in mind all the people that went up or down in weight to avoid wrestling him.
