I am a little late on this issue, but I just saw the Nightline interview with the guys from rationalresponders.com. They call themselves the Rational Respnse Squad and there goal is to rid the world of theism. While they say they are against all theism it is cleaar to me that the target is mainly Christianity, probably because of the size of the religion here in the states. THey want people to think rationaly about the world and stop believeing in "magic" or "fairytales". I am fine with that people have been trying to do the same thing forever. The issue I am having is how they are doing it. The response squad has started this thing called the blasphemy challenge, which tells people to blaspheme the Holy Spirit, declaring themselves non-believers. They are using scripture (Mark 3: 22-30) that they have mis-interpreted to do this. They are advertising on web sites targeted towards teen and kids trying to convince them to denounce God. They say they are trying to save them before they are indoctrinated. I say that parents have the right to raise their children in an belief system they choose as long as it is not a hate filled system that hurts the child or caused the child to hurt others. Its one thing to profess your views to other adults who have the ability to make informed decisions but to target kids is just wrong. Kids today are taught evolution and about different religions in school and are better informed than our parents were about other beliefs. THey will make a decision when it is time and nobody has the right to target them because they know that they are impressionable and want to perhaps rebell against what their parents are telling them.
Oh and I almost forgot if you take the challenge and make a video post it on youtube of you denying Christ and the Holy Spirit they will send you a free DVD. They say it only costs your soul.

How can a rational person denounce the existence of God?
How else can the existence of the universe be explained?
The existence of God and the detriment caused by "practicing" religion are two different things in my mind.

Agreed Ground but I would say the mal-practicing of religion causees the detriment

Are these people saying that religion has no positive aspects?
Sure, many people abuse religion, however I don't think anyone can doubt that a lot of good has come from religion as well.

Unfortunately the their web site is down and I cant access it right now, but some of them do believe religion is bad, and that jesus never existed and so on. The usual athiest views. I believe the non-believers or athiests on this board are much more rational than these guys.

You got it all backwards. How can a rational person not denounce the existence of God?
Go read a scientific book about Universe. Get a clue God boy!

Go read a scientific book about Universe. Get a clue God boy!Science hasn't come close to explaining where the matter and energy that composes the universe originally came from. We are learning more and more about how the universe works, but we don't have a clue as to why it works the way it does or where it came from. theism - the belief in god atheism - the disbelief in god and agnosticism - the belief that we don't know it there is a god all can be supported by reasoning and rational. Don't argue with me about this...I got a B+ in philosophy.

So, because humans can't yet explain everything, it must be all God. Nice logic, buddy.

So, because humans can't yet explain everything, it must be all God. Nice logic, buddy. It's not my logic, it's what a great many philosophers have come up with. If there is no natural explanation, then you are left with a supernatural one. (a god)

Well, my philosophy is: "If there is no natural explanation for something, that means we just haven't found it yet".

It is a well known fact that, as a whole, people that believe in God tend to have a happier and more meaningful life than those that do not believe in God. Apparently some think offering their children a happier and more fulfilling life is like swallowing poision. Such a horrible crime
