It would be great if Purdue could get a coach that would take them to the next level. Hinkle should be considered, but they should also look for somebody who has a track record of success at the head coaching level. I'm waiting to hear who the potential candidates are.... Do you have any thoughts? What about all these guys that interviewed for Ohio State and did not get the job? I believe Borrelli was one of them. If Purdue were somehow able to get him, I would be very pleased (though I know Borrelli won't leave Central Michigan unless he is approached and really given a great opportunity).

I really have a hard time with Hinkle getting the job. You never see an NFL, NBA, big time college football team, etc. hire from within from a dismal program. You would never see the Browns hire their offensive cooridinator after a 3-13 season. I think Hinkle is a good coach, but maybe not Big 10 head coach capable. It would be great for him to stay on as an assistant as he bleeds black and gold.
It will be interesting to see who applies, while this isn't the best Big 10 job, there aren't many openings for a job like that.

Well, I like Hinkel a lot, but I don't know how he would do as a head coach. When I say that, I mean I really have no clue. Given the choice between someone who has already proved himself at the top level and someone whom I like but has not been there yet, I certainly would take the former. The question is whether they are going to have any candidates like that. Note that Purdue took Reyes from Michigan State where he was an assistant coach -- he had also not been at that level yet. If all they have to choose from is assistant coaches, then I would readily push for Hinkel. But if they could get someone like Borrelli interested in the job, then you would have to go for him without a second thought.

Most people in Indiana love Hinkle and want him to get the job. The only name that I have heard that has applied is former Fresno State coach, Shawn Charles.
