A wrestling club during Soviet times was not considered appropriate unless it was as big as a basketball gym. The ceilings were like 30 feet tall with many windows throughout most of the wall height. The windows were just high enough so that people outside could not see inside.
It always seemed weird to me that wrestling rooms in America are in the basements, with low ceiling and often bad ventilation.
Just wanted to share this thought.

I have a video tape of the Bulgarian weightlifting team from the late 90's (in Sofia, I think), and your description of the wrestling building is just the kind of place they worked out in. It looked huge inside, with really high ceilings. Yeah, I dont' know why it's different here. I guess big buildings just went out of favor years ago. Costs too much to heat, I suppose. Personally, I like them.

Yeah, I think its about money. A basement room with low ceilings is just cheaper to upkeep. No respectable Soviet coach would ever accept it though. Weird.
