I’m still tripping on my good karma. Saturday, I was backing out of a parking spot in a parking garage. I wanted to turn right, so I looked back to my right cranked the wheel, forgetting about pole on the left. My son and I got out of the car and saw a pretty big dent in the corner of the plastic bumper.
Later that day I took it to a body shop, but I got there just as the owner was leaving. He looked at my car and said that they could heat it up and bump it out for about $100 or I could get a new bumper for about $450. My car doesn’t have any body or engine problems, but it does have 105K miles on it, so I said I’d bring it back Monday to get it bumped out. I went home and lifted the hood and looked underneath to see if I could bump it out myself, but it wasn’t possible, so I resigned myself to wait until Monday.
Sunday was a nice bright sunny day and when I went out to where I parked my car, the dent didn’t look half as bad. By noon, the bumper was pretty warm to the touch and completely back to its original shape!!! Good car-ma.

Last winter wifey backed out of the garage and clipped the bumper of my son's car. It was like -5F that morning and the bumper corner shattered. The body shop wanted $600 to replace it. The auto dealer wanted $450 for the bumper unpainted and another $75 to paint it. I picked a new one up on eBay, painted in the original color, for $175. It arrived in perfect shape and it took about 45 minutes to remove the bolts and put the new one in place. Wifey was happy again.

I've been driving this car for 6 1/2 years and this is the first scrape. I thought that was pretty good, considering that I have been commuting 50 miles a day for the last few years.

I thought so, but I couldn't resist bragging about my record. I'll probably total it on the way home now.
