In a link to the Kurt Angle statement posted yesterday, the former WWE Superstar's manager Dave Hawk says that Angle has retired from pro wrestling.
Although the actual statement does not definitively say Angle's retiring, the note on Hawk's website (davehawk.com) is pretty clear:
"Kurt Angle, WWE Super Star and 1996 Olympics Gold Medalist has retired from professional wrestling NOW plans to fight in the MMA in 2007!"

Good for him, fight a few super fights a year, make millions. Compare that to 200+ matches on the road in the pro game. Good luck Kurt!

The word on the street here in Pittsburgh is that Kurt is not in a very good place mentally or physically.

Ground,
If what you say is true, what a terrible shame.
RE everyone -- If Kurt Angle is indeed "in a bad place" mentally and/or physically from WWE which is showbiz (albeit still a grind, with all the travel and what can happen even with a script)... how can he compete successfully in MMA? Even tho there are fewer matches per year, wouldn't each match be more intense, more demanding physically and mentally?

Mark, I don't know Angle personaly but I think I know that type of personality. He strikes me as the type who does nothing at less than 100% of his ability. I figure this type personality might be more conducive to a few competitions per year, rather than hundreds. No one can compeete at 100% of their momentary ability 100% of the time. Angle strikes me as the type of guy who can't back off, he's got to do everything the best he can, everytime he can. This is not an attitude conducive to health and longevity in pro-wrestling. It is also not conducive to mental and physical health. Even great athletes have to cycle their training, back off and ease up so greater gains can be made later. MMA might allow him to do that, having a goal of being in top shape 3 months from now for one big fight is just healthier than being at the top of your game for years at a time. In a way he's returning to his roots. Directed competition.

I know that I have seen some commercials on TV about a WWE Brawl or something. Must have come out of retirement.
