NO HOLDS BARRED: Jeff Thaler on the July 22 WFA Show
There is a new episode on my NO HOLDS BARRED podcast:
nhbnews.podOmatic.com
On this edition of NO HOLDS BARRED, the second this week, host Eddie Goldman speaks with veteran mixed martial arts journalist Jeff Thaler about this past Saturday's World Fighting Alliance (WFA) (http://www.wfa.tv) card and pay-per-view at The Forum in Inglewood, California.
We discuss both the show overall and the prospects for success for the WFA, and also review the show fight by fight. We also discuss the recent messages from Nick Lembo, Counsel to the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board, correcting numerous errors in articles by several newspaper boxing writers about the history of mixed martial arts, and explaining that the sport was sanctioned in New Jersey before Zuffa owned UFC (http://news.adcombat.com/article.html?id=11548).
Jeff has a blog at whaledog.com/.
Also make sure to check out my weekly boxing show, SecondsOut Radio. On this week's edition we comment on this past Saturday's victory by welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir over Arturo Gatti. We preview the new weekly boxing series starting this Thursday, July 27, on the OLN channel in the U.S. by speaking with Bob Arum, the CEO of Top Rank, which is providing both live and taped classic fights for this series; undefeated middleweight Kelly Pavlik (27-0, 24 KOs), who fights veteran Bronco McKart (48-6, 31 KOs) in this debut show coming from the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT; and Marc Fein, Senior Vice President of Programming and Production for OLN, about why his network decided to begin a regular boxing series. We also speak with junior welterweight contender Paulie Malignaggi (21-1, 5 KOs) about his June 10 loss to undefeated WBO champ Miguel Cotto, the state of his injuries from that fight, and when he plans to return to the ring. We speak with undefeated welterweight Dmitriy Salita (25-0-1, 15 KOs) ringside right after his latest victory this past Thursday, July 20, in the main event at the Broadway Boxing show at the Manhattan Center in New York. And we discuss many of the controversies emerging from that show, including the eighth-round stoppage of super middleweight Curtis Stevens (13-1, 11 KOs) by Marcos Primera (20-15-2, 13 KOs) and the melee which ensued right afterwards in the ring. SecondsOut Radio is also free to hear, but you must register to gain access to it, at www.secondsout.com/radio.
