oklahomastate.scout.com/2/563734.html Longtime Cowboy Tommy Chesbro Dies By Terry Tush Posted Sep 2, 2006 Tommy Chesbro, who has been associated with Oklahoma State University athletics for 41 years as an athlete, coach and administrator, died of an apparent heart attack Friday evening. Chesbro has been in charge of athletic facilities at OSU for the past 20 years. Chesbro was the Cowboy wrestling coach from 1970-84, leading Oklahoma State to the NCAA championship in 1971. His teams also placed in the top four at the NCAA championships 12 other times during his 15-year coaching career, during which the Cowboys won 227 duals while losing just 26. He closed his coaching career with a 43-match winning streak. Chesbro coached 20 individual NCAA champions and another 20 AAU and USA Wrestling titlist. Among those were world and Olympic champions John Smith and Kenny Monday, and three-time NCAA heavyweight champion Jimmy Jackson. He was a high school state champion wrestling before joining the OSU wrestling program, and was a starter on the Cowboys’ 1959 national championship squad.
