This is for all the late bloomers out there... Dan McNair took up wrestling as a junior in high school in New Orleans. Did not win a single match all through high school. He went to Alabama Polytechnic (now Auburn University) as a "awkward, skinny 185-pounder" but matured into a 6'2" 210-pound heavyweight who was undefeated his junior and senior year. "Dangerous Dan" McNair capped off his college career with an upset win over the defending heavyweight champ from Oklahoma State at the 1953 NCAA finals. Now you can see TWO DOZEN photos of McNair and his opponents -- some who are true wrestling legends -- in a BRAND-NEW photo album at NCAA Heavyweight Champs Yahoo group! sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/NCAA_Heavyweight_Champs/ (In addition to these new photos of McNair -- the first heavyweight champ from the deep South -- you'll find photos, articles and brackets for the best of the big men of college wrestling in the 20th century, including Earl McCready, Dick Hutton, Verne Gagne, Gene Nicks, Jim Nance... all the way up to Brock Lesnar*.) It's never too late to check it out! Mark Moderator, NCAA Heavyweight Champs * For the champs since 2001, visit sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/NCAA_Heavyweight_Champs_2/
