Attended some matches last year when the fans got too far out of control. Some started calling a kid on the other team Nigger as well as some choice expletives when he got some calls they didn't like.
Nothing was done.
At another match this happened and the ref stopped the match and gave the crowd section and coach both one minute to turn the guy over or he would vacate the section of the stands, throwing the whole section out or forfeiting the meet. The guy was pointed out and thrown out.
How do the refs and those running meets in your area handle fan problems?

Had a wrestling Dad getting on the case of a ref from 112 on after his kid lost and he thought the ref blew a call. At 140, after a particularly nasty comment, the ref stopped the bout walked over the guy and politely gave a him a warning. Everyone in the atrea heard the warning and he did it preofessionally and repectfully.
At 157 the guy razzed him again. The ref stops the bout, calls the coaches to the officials table, then walks over to the AD who escorts him to a cop. The 3 walk over to the guy. The AD tells him. "Sir, you can leave now without a word or this officer will cite you for disorderly conduct and have you halled to the PD station. Your choice." The guy starts to say something and the Ad jumped right in and said "Officer arrest this man." Mind this guy is at a home meet and everyone n the stands knows him. The guy grabbed his jacket and slinked sideways through the stands and out the door.
Funny, don't know why he never showed again that season.
The refs around here don't take any guff and the AD's are quite supportive.

I think it's worse when the kids a younger. Parents get insane when it comes to their kids. I worked several tournaments for 4-10 year olds. Some parents went ballistic when a call didn't go their way. I never seen anyone arrested. Some should have been.

We've had a couple of mans go at it before. One mom tried to get in the face of one of our coaches during a youth match as well. He said a few choice words and she backed off. Parents alo of times, have no business coaching or being anywhere near a mat.

Here's a somewhat related incident.....High school lacrosse match for the county championship, 1 school public, the other $30K per year private. A teen on the sideline one kids is razzing one of the middies from the private, who is neighbor. They were friends even after the other started going to the private school.
Anyway, the private school loses. After the game the specator is sitting in his car waiting for a freind when his buddy from the private school steps up, knocks on the window and proceeds to pound on his face. The spectator flees the other door, but is caught and falls to the ground.
Now the father comes over and starts kicking the spectator in the face. Cops are called the two assailants leave. The kid ends up in the ER with a broken nose and hand and bruised ribs.
The nailed both the father and son for assault. Mind these 3 live next door to each other. The assaulted kid has already filed a lawsuit. The assaulting father has put his home up for sale already. As for junior, they expelled him from the private school.

Regarding the first two posts on this thread, I commend the officials for acting properly and keeping control of the situation. I've been around wrestling for over forty years and quite understand the intensity and emotions involved, but it's only a game! It's a means to an end, not an end in itself. Parents and coaches who don't understand this shouldn't be involved in high school sports. Period!

Simialrly, we have a problem growing in town here where the parents do not hesitate to run to the AD or even the Bd of Ed over their kid and the coach. Some just get it that when you get of Little League a coach has no obligation to play a kid in a game just because the kid is on the team.
This past spring our basketball coach was put on a stretcher by complaints of the parents of 2 seniors that didn't see much playing time. Every year it seems to be a different coach. Last hockey, and field hockey, the year before lacrosse. They think that because the kid has put in 4 years the coach is obligated to start their little Judy.
Sould a coach give a senior some playing time, sure. But I don't see any obligation to start a kid.
Now the Board is talking about a prohibition on freshman starting on the varsity. The Board really doesn't have clue either. That rule could really harm a number of sports including wrestling, tennis and golf.

This year at our regional which my school hosted, I had a kid wrestling and the other kids dad was behind my corner, yelling and cheering which I dont mind then the guy yelled " Break his neck". So I stood up in a heated manner and told that SOB he needed to go over to his sons coaches corner and if he persisted I would have him thrown out. The guy left, but the sad thing was his kid was winning and was really a good kid, nice, respectful and a good wrestler. Dont worry I had another coach on the mat so I didnt abandon my kid.

Like father, like son: The Associated Press reported recently that a Little League father from Kent, N.Y., punched the coach of his son's team of 9- and 10-year-olds. The father was upset because his child had been suspended for uppity behavior.
"A word of warning to you baseball coaches," wrote Bob Reno of BadJocks.com. "If you kick a kid off the team for insubordination, you can probably assume the little acorn hasn't fallen far from the big nut tree."

We had a coachpush a kid in the back of the head for taking down his straps following a loss...the dad flew out of the stands into the locker room and up in the face of the coach and just kept yelling for the coach to try that with him instead of his boy. Heck of a day...I was one of the tournament directors.

Hmmm. I can't say i wouldn't take matters into my own hands if a coach handled my child physically like that.

Coach said in defense that the kid was trying to take his straps down....I was there, I just think the coach was being termpermental at a kid that wrestled his rear off.

I had a parent come up to me after a match one time and chewed me out. It was my senior year and I was in the running for the state takedown record meaning I would get several takedowns in a match and cut them loose after each one then after I got a 14 point lead I would pin them. Well after the match the dad came to me and told me I was disrespectful and had no right to do that to anyone as it lowers there self esteem and makes them look bad. He also told me that I was lucky he was not able to wrestle me as it would not be pretty at all. I told him that if his kid would just get better it wouldn't hurt his self esteem, and that if I didn't do that I wouldn't be able to raise my own self esteem. I then told him I would gladly wrestle him but I didn't want to lower his self esteem that much. He left without saying another word.
