My order:
1. Herbert - Best returning wrestler poind for pound. Kish my want to move up a weight class.
2. Perry - Both 165 and 174 have cleared out and he should be the favorite in either one. I think Tannebaum still has another year.
3. Glenn - 197 will still be loaded and he seems to take alot of chances. He was almost put on his back twice against Backes.
4. Donohoe - Will he stay at 125? Is he the same type of wrestler as Dubuque, who looks questionable all year and then wins when it counts?
5. Gillispie - No disrespect intended, but he still has Schlatter and possibly Metcalf to deal with.

Herbert's the only one I can really see as a shoe-in.
Perry might be #2 since JH is gone along with Paulson. Will Perry head back up to 174?

Clearly I'm not an Iowa insider, but he looked comfortable at 65 all season, and yes, he took third in the nation at 174, but would he do as well back up there?

I guess it would depend on who else decided to cert. at 174. For instance if Herbert decided to go back down, Perry should probably stay at 165. Not saying that it would happen, just a thought.

On a personal observation ain't no one gonna touch Mark Perry or Jake Herbert next season. A difference in who's major decision in the finals in more impressive will be the decider of 2008's most outstanding wrestler.
Paul Danahoe has just become the hunted and there are plenty of wrestlers at 125 pounds that are very capable of beating him. However, that doesn't mean I doubt his ability. I'm just realistic to Jayson Ness, Charlie Falck, Obeson Blanc, Tanner Gardner and possibly a few others giving him fits.
I'd like to see Gillispie beat Schlatter again. Once I see that, I'll give you my opinion.
197 didn't really clear out all that much. It's as iffy next year as it was this year. I personally look for Phil Davis or JD Bergman to take it all. However let me say something about two other wrestlers. Wynn Michalak is an extremely hard worker, and I heard that from the mouth of one of his former teammates. I guarantee that he'll refuse to have the same type of season next year that he had this year. Seeing him in the finals wouldn't surprise me at all. Same goes for Joel Flaggart of Oklahoma, if he is granted a final year of elgibility, look out!

On a personal observation ain't no one gonna touch Mark Perry or Jake Herbert next season. I think Tannenbaum could be a threat to Perry, seeing that he beat him earlier in the year. Give t-baum another year to get adjusted to the new weight.

1. Herbert: Obvious
2. Perry: I'm assuming he stays at 165, as that would be better for Iowa as a team. Only person he really has to worry about in my opinion is Tann 3. Glenn: Very tough, but you can bet Phil Davis, and Maskren are going to be out with a vengeance next year 4. Gillespie: Don't like his chances much if he stays at 149 against Schlatter and Metcalf, but I like them better than I do Donahoe's. If he moves up to 157 thats another story. That would make that weight, REAL interesting 5. Donahoe: Great wrestler, and had a much better season going 35-5 than many gave him credit for. That being said, this weight is way deep, and I like Nickerson and Ness at the very least to place higher than him next year.

"5. Gillispie - No disrespect intended, but he still has Schlatter and possibly Metcalf to deal with." What about that cat he squeaked by in the finals? I think his name was Churella....

My pick for Hodge next year would be Herbert hands down. He's 101-4 and getting better. Don't think that he'll go down thought; no reason to and he looks like a fullsized 184 #.
Don't think that Perry will move up because he doensn't need to. I see him becoming a 2 timer.

I know that he has two losses to Pete Freidl of Illinois, one loss to Imad Kharbrush of Stanford and one loss to Ben Askren of Missouri. I was not aware that they were the only three men to hand him varsity losses during his first 3 years.

herbert is nothing short of amazing, he will have to be considered one of the best 2 time champs in the history of the sport when hes done. (Although that certainly is a very long list )
