I tend to jump back and forth between the Mat and this site (mostly here) and there have been a couple items regarding Adam Frey that have heated up the other site. Would like to hear everyone's thoughts regarding a talented, but enigmatic competitor:
1) As you are all I'm sure aware, Frey didn't make weight on Friday. Some reports hinted at by the rather reliable Jay Hammond indicate he missed by A LOT! Was this a ploy to get out of the tourny after an embarrassing fall to Gallick? Is he a self-proclaimed expert weight cutter as has been stated? What was the story?
2) It may have been talked about on here, but it appeared to be proven via a posting by other Cornell wrestlers calling out Frey (or an immediate family member) as Mister Jacks. Mister Jacks has a long history of trashing Nickerson openly on that board while exhalting Frey as a superior individual. After the call out, it was surmissed that Frey was on the outs with his teammates for this internet dialogue. Is this a sign that he may be going somewhere else due to his alienating his team?
3) This is for those who were at the tourny: Reports have Mother Frey ripping into one of the assistant coaches (rumored to be Cooperman) regarding Adam not making weight. Besides the irony that she would call out Cooperman given his history....was this observed by anyone else. Is it the responsibility of the coaching staff to ensure their people make weight? Yes and no.....
I am just curious what everyone has seen or found out that indicates what is going on with this physically gifted, but notably controversial athlete. I especially welcome Big's thoughts due to his familiarity with the program and TNick.

he missed by 1/10th. Which included a failed attempt of standing on his head.
He barely made it the day before. He stood on a tenth over the first time. Then they wouldn't let him leave the weigh in area. He through on a pair of sweats, and "released a few tenths" inside the pants.
Missing weight at NCAA's should never happen, so this is not an excuse. Just an explanation of events.

I think Frey is under too much pressure with pre-law studies, cutting a lot of weight and high expectations. He could have very well lost it and pigged out.
Jacks is not Adam Frey. I doubt Frey will transfer.

Any idea why he wouldn't be at 141 to begin with?

The scale is designed to have both feet on the platform to assess your weight. Since standing on one's head covers much smaller area on the platform than standing with the feet, the scale might show you to be lighter. That is my guess.

He stands on his head before getting on the scale, not during. The blood rushes to your head, held up by your head, not your whole body. I know it sounds weird, but it has worked for him in the past. I'm a cheerleading coach, and the girls who fly in the air are taught to stay as tight as possible, holding their head and chest up, butt in, knees locked, etc., to make themselves easier to throw. A limp flyer is a heavy flyer, kinda like a sleeping baby is heavier to carry than an awake one. My question is this: do wrestlers tighten up when on the scale? I would think i would help.

I think what you are describing is how heavy someone feels - our perception of how hard it is to carry dead weight vs. live weight. Their actual weight does not change.

Unfortunately, there's no defying gravity - standing on head or tightening up muscles will make no difference. (The limp thing is true, but it involves kinetics - not motionless weight.) One thing I have witnessed is if the wrestler - who must be very close - slowly exhales onto the scale tip evenly and directly, he can blow it down just enough to get in. The guy I saw do it didn't actually get away with it that day - but rumor has he did in the past. True or not, it was clever...

The scale measures your weight and unless you change body mass or change gravity, none of these tricks will change what the scale reads. However, our team scale in college was a not a blance scale but a spring scale with a big dial and it could be effected by almost a pound by getting on the scale really slowly.

Have you guys really never heard of standing on your head before stepping on the scale?
Maybe it's a western PA thing??
I've seen it done countless times over the years. Some people swear it works, but I personally don't think it does.
------------
As for the Frey's , I personally don't know them but I've observed them from a distance. They (most Adam & his Dad) remind me of a person who is very intelligent but kind of aloof. Like someone who is too smart for their own good and lacks a little common sense?? Adam reminds me a little of Ray Brinzer but a whole lot meaner. (on the mat)

Well, the scale is designed in a certain manner. It is only a machine made by a man. If you alter human complexion enough it might show a different weight than the one you have. For example, if your head were to have 80% of your weight, you might weigh differently on that scale than the normal human of the same weight. Maybe.
