I'll get a lot more up here once videos of all the matches come out, but I'll throw up just a little bit for now 125: 5th place isn't too bad, I expected a little bit more, but no shame in losing to the guys that he lost to. Awesome job getting the pin over Obe for 5th 133: It hurt here. Got beat out by Valenti, and then lost the heartbreaker to McCormick. He'll be back with a vengeance though. 141: Hurt here too had some nice wins, but both losses were tough. Never really was the same after getting hurt against Sconny, needs to work on varying his stuff so he isn't just relying on wearing the better guys out to beat them 149: He lost. Nice job by him coming back to take third, he'll be back next year as the "forgotten man." I imagine I'll be saying a lot more after I can see the tape 157: CP got his AA. Came along nice near the end of the year with his throw by to a single, hopefully now that he got the AA monkey off his back he can start getting at guys. Wrestled eight matches, six straight one pointers after majoring his first two guys 165: Wasn't really expecting a ton here, especially after looking at his draw, he did a nice job knocking off Anceravage but then just ran into guys that were too big, and too good. He'll do well to bulk up in the offseason and come back and compete for the spot next year 174: Would have liked to see a little more here, but I can't complain about the guys he lost to, Askren obviously, and Luke are both really tough. Nice to see him avenge his loss to Letts. Needs to find a leg attack, or at the very least get back to working double unders on guys 184: Really interested to see his match with Varner in the semi's. From the info that I got through out the tournament just never seemed to be himself. Tough weight class, but Roger's tough too. We'll see what happens next year. 285: Who da man? Cole da man.

Minnesota has a lot of returning talent.

everyone but konrad...however, konrad contributed like 20 points so someone has to step up on those...
all things considered, we did win a championship without getting points from reiter, rivera, safratowich or dretsch and in addition our wrestlers at 125, 149, 157 and 184 did not wrestle up to their seeds...that would certainly leave some room for improvement that could be made up for next year...
i think iowa state and missouri actually lose more talent than we do...

Minnesota won the tourney with everyone but Cole placing below their seed. Has that ever been done before? It has to be the most underwhelming team victory in history. When you look at the team photo, they almost look embarrassed.
I'm not sure if this is a bad thing or is it a comment on on how talented the gophers are. They should have won by a margin similar to their big ten victory......

I witnessed the Gophers coming onto the platform for their photo. They were thrilled with their team victory! Reiter was the first one up and led the celebration. Far from embarrassed. They picked each other up on Sat and earned it. That's one tight-knit group of athletes.
One of DH's photos shows Reiter celebrating behind Ness' pin of Blanc. As much as Reiter had to be disappointed he wasn't wrestling Saturday morning, you'd never know it.
They also walked together over to the Gophers fan sections for more photos and celebration. J Rob gave some hugs to family. It was great!

One of my favorite things about Reiter, as emotional as he is, and as hard as he takes losses, he never, ever sulks, and if the team pulls off something great he's always as you pointed out the guy leading the celebration.

I noticed Reiter was extremely happy, and that kind of picked the rest of the team up, even though they didn't wrestle well. The team title was the reason Mack came back this year instead of hoping for a medical redshirt. He never got one in high school, so I'm glad he got his title, and hope he gets an individual title next year.

Both Reiter and his dad were in the dumps Friday nite........but Saturday was a different story........they were very happy and satisfied. They are team players. But that ugly green hat that they both wore.......................

Who does Minnesota have at heavyweight next year?

Joe Nord or Ben Berhow, both are redshirting this year. They've been co-champs at a couple tournaments. I've heard Nord is the better of the two, but with the situation they've got in the room, both would likely be very tough. Gophers have AA'd heavyweight 12 of the last 14 years.

It is a shame that one of these two wrestlers will have to sit on the sidelines but if they are evenly matched its possible we may see a little bit of both of them especially at NE Duals and National Duals as well as Open Tournaments...

They should have won by a margin similar to their big ten victory...... they don't have footnotes on the trophy about how much the team won by...the gophers have nothing to be embarrassed about...their only senior went out with a national title...the others will get there chance next year... i look for ness, reiter, rivera, ds, c.p. saf, dretsch, and kish to be in the conversation again next year for AA status if dretsch and saf even make the line-up...not too many teams will be able to look at their line-ups in november and be able to pencil in eight potential AA's...

Dustin Schlatter
v. Burroughs: Burroughs looks as though he's just a tough match up for Schlatter, he's long and athletic as all hell, very explosive. Dustin did a nice job picking up his TD on a go behind, and then a very, very good job scrambling out of near TD attempts by Burroughs. Burroughs has a few things he needs to improve on, he does that and he'll be a threat, be it here at 149, or at 157 should he move up
v. Moley: Would have loved to see a bigger score put up on this guy, but it is what it is. He got a nice TD off a little shrug to a single, however I think him converting on the move was a little more Moley not quite being in his class, don't know if he'd get that on the elite guys in the weight. Picked up some more points here and there, and then got out with his win
v. Turner: Kind of unfolded like his last match with Turner did, get his TD, get some backs and some riding time, and then just hold onto it. Turner got to join the ranks of the elite who have taken Schlatter down, but Dustin also did a nice job scrambling away from him on a late TD that may have tied things up. Was glad to see Turner able to wrestleback to get his AA finish
v. Gillespie: Per norm with most Gopher fans I can't say I was too enthusiastic about the officiating here. I don't fault GG for anything, he wrestled the match that he had to do to win, he got Schlatter to walk into a nice double and then put the skates on for the majority of the match because the ref let him, obviously there is no guarentee that had the ref gotten on him a little bit that Schlatter would have won. I said after Schlatter's match with Grunder that I wasn't in favor of stalls for just pushing. Schlatter wasn't just pushing, but he was doing a lot of it, call could have been made, call could not have been made, I obviously would have preferred to see it. Schlatter was SO close to a TD with about 15 seconds left, Gillespie had some great defense there. He just didn't do enough in this match, and it bit him. Can't play the injury card here either, Gillespie had the CP/Manny tape job going on his left leg.
v. JPO: A lot like the Turner match, Dustin picked up a nice TD, some backs, and then did his defense thing. Glad I finally got to see an actual JPO match, had been touting the kid all year just off results, nice to see it wasn't in vain. Very well rounded, and good from all positions, and he also has one of the best situations for a middleweight in the nation. Put a nice ride on Schlatter after he picked up his reversal in the second.
v. Palmer: Not a ton to say here, only points scored were on riding time, Dustin did a nice job again putting a good hard ride on Palmer as he did at the Scuffle. I was impressed with how much Palmer has improved since I saw him wrestle Schlatter at the Scuffle back in December. He'll be in the mix at whatever weight he wins up at over the coming years.
So there it is. Dustin lost, he's now ONLY 78-2, and has now been taken down a whopping eight times in his career. He definitely seemed to be gimping on his left leg a little bit, people complain about his "stalling" or "lack of offense" whatever it is, it hit its peak here at the tournament without a doubt, so if its just a sprained MCL, or something more hopefully he gets that squared away, and it stays away for the rest of his career. This summer he needs to work on getting a dynamite leg shot to go along with his shrug, duck, and his various counter offensive stuff. It'll be fun to see him come into the year next year as sort of the forgotten man. My opinion, he's going to be JUST fine.
