President Bush says “the foundation of our economy is solid, and it’s strong.” That’s true, for some: corporate profits have now climbed to their highest share of GDP since the 1960’s. But new Census Bureau data show the real state of the current economy. The Bush record on combating poverty and insuring more Americans is an undisputed failure. thinkprogress.org/2006/08/29/bush-record/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poverty_in_the_United_StatesThe official poverty rate in the U.S. has increased for four consecutive years, from a 26-year low of 11.3% in 2000 to 12.7% in 2004. This means that 37.0 million people were below the official poverty thresholds in 2004. This is 5.4 million more than in 2000. But hey, the economy is good for rich corporations. Now, the poverty level is close to 35 percent.

That's good for business. Now that these people are starving, we can hire them for lower wages. They are just lazy, that is why they are poor. Either that or they are doing drugs. If they want to make real money they can. This is the land of opportunity.

Wait, are you saying 35 percent of the country are a bunch of lazy bums? Its more like coroporations going overseas and higher unskilled workers for lower wages because they don't wanna hire jobless americans. Yah, right. With only 10 percent making an income higher than 80,000 a year and 1 percent making a million or more. You have to wonder, oppurtunities for who? The rich that's who.

Anybody can make it. Countless people have risen from rags to riches. Look at people like George Bush - entrepeneurs. They took their chances. Failed many times, but he had guts and worked hard. Eventually they succeeded. It is all about who works the hard. If you work hard, you will rise to the top. If you are lazy and do drugs you will be a doormat. Land of opportunity! That is why we must fight for our freedom in Iraq. The islamofascists want to take our freedom away.

George Bush inheirted his money, he didn't rise from rags to riches. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bush_familyLook at his family tree. His family was rich back in the 1880's. They also established themsevles financially well from the rise of hitler.

BTW, George Bush is the son of a congressman / vice president and the grandson of a senator -- not exactly a self-made man.

Not to mention that crime is on the double digit rise in many catagories, such as murder, robberies and rape. I thought he was the security President? Anyone want to put a positive spin on this for me? Someone in Clearfield still loves him.

FYI - Wikipedia lists the poverty rate for 2006 as $20,000 annual income for a family of 4.

Ah, you just wanted to make a 200th post and become a round of 12 poster right before NCAAs. bonnie, depends on where you live but definitely in NY I would say if you have a family of 4 and the family earns less than $60K, you are in poverty.
