best, Now that is a dam fine looking dog! He looks solid as a rock. Make sure you feed him properly and let him get his exercise. Run him as often as you can. Have the vet clean his teeth when needed. That will save you problems later on in years. Get him a young chick to hang with. He will love you for it. LOL

Hey thanks. Yeah i run him pretty much everyday. He got a little porky in his first year. I was feeding him a little too much. I got that all worked out and he shed a few pounds. He is pretty ripped now. He is about 80 pounds even at this point.

Now that's one hell of a dog you got there. He's what I call a throwback. From the swimming pic, I see he has the "O.G" bull dog conformation. Back in the day, the American Bull Dog used to be called American Pit Bull Dog. The breed name officially changed to American Bull Dog only later. In my opinion, this is about the time when the difference between the Standard/Johnson and Scott versions of the AB started to really become pronounced. As you know, the Scott version is stockier and looks more like the British version that it shares some heritage with. The Johnson lines, which I prefer, were bred with one goal in mind: to create the ultimate working dog. And that boy Jimi looks like he can work his ass off.

I would bet that Jimi can hit a hog like a torpedo once he figured out that is what he is supposed to do!

Well, there are many ways "bully breeds" can be exercised. Running, walking, of course. Depending on how much time you want to invest in him, there are competitions you culd get him into. Weight pulling comes to mind. Agility competitions. Obedience competitions (AB's are very smart and obedient dogs). If you really want a challenge and want to invest a lot of time with him, dog "protection" sports such as schutzhund exist. Or it doesn't have to be competition at all, just training your dog to perform athletic feats on command is a joy, and quite an impressive display for onlookers. If you're into hogging as bam, mentioned, your 80 lb boy looks like he could make one bad ass hog dog. In terms of pure daily exercise, one great way to work out your bully is with a spring pole. Not sure if you've ever seen one... Here's a pic: www.springpoleusa.com/Basically they are strong poles from which "bite baits" such as strong rope or a solid piece of rubber are attached to very strong spring (like that of a garage door). By shaking the bait, the dog willl learn to jump up (and your boy looks like he can jump high so hang it high) and snatch on to it with his teeth. He will then play tug of war with the pole. This builds explosive power and bite strength and is a good daily workout. You have to be careful. In certain parts of the country, spring poles are considered dog fighting equipment and are either outlawed or can cause po-po to keep an overly watchful eye on your house. Another simple but highly effective form of exercise is to teach your boy to fetch. By a nerf football or a frisbee and in an open field, get him to fetch and retrieve back. 50-100 reps a day should be a solid workout. Just some ideas.

I might look into some weight pulling. Im kinda afraid about that a little cause ive heard that these dogs are prone to blowing their ACL's out and stuff because of their structure. Id love to get a spring pole also. He would go nuts on that thing. Im not an expert on AB's but he is a game dog. Unlimited energy and no shyness to him whatsoever. He is definately an alpha type dog as far as his personality. I couldnt see him backing down to no man or beast if faced with anything. I'll work on the fetching too. There is a huge park by my house. I'll toss a frisbee for him or something. He knows how to fetch. Right now i basically jog with him at a slow pace and occasionally sprint with him during the run. Also I have a pool so he swims a lot in that which is some good exercise. Its funny cause he takes a huge run and just jumps in it. I will be inside watching tv or whatever and i will hear a huge splash. He just goes for it. There is no easing into the water from the steps for him. Thanks for the tips. Also what do you think about feeding AB's human food? He pretty much lives on dry dog food but occasionally i'll give him a few scraps here and there.
