Did you have a floor pass for the finals?

What about dates?
PA states aren't until March 8-10. Our matches began on Dec 1st.
Many feel the season is a few weeks too long.

If you want a multi-class states, nolies, it is much like watching the finals on multiple mats at once. You can forget all the drama of the last two pictures.
Multi-class system is the equivalent of stopping at the quarterfinals.

I know. I would survive without the spotlight on the finals. The NCAA does it without a spotlight and it seems to go just fine.

Not being able to enjoy each finals match blows as well, seeing as they all run simultaneously.

SO TRUE!
119 finals run simultaneously: Mat One: Mason Lenhard winning Mat Two: CP Schlatter winning Mat Three: Harry Lester winning
And then.........
that's all folks.
Not real satisfying.

New Jersey has a single tournament for public and parochials. The prep schools like Blair, Hun and Lawrenceville have their own state tournament.
32 districts with small and large together, usually 9-10 teams per district. Top 3 move on to one of 8 regionals. Seeds are meted out based on past year placement, current record and head to head competition.
Then there are 2 super regions where the 2s and 3s from the regions wrestle paring the field to 16 in each weight class. Losers go home.
All 16 qualifiers go to the final tournament in Atlantic City and the state reseeds the entire field. Past champs getting the no 1 seed, or a No 2 if there are 2 returning champs in the field. Past qualifiers get seeded based on their placement in the past. You may have 3rd in the region, but based on last year, you may have the No 1 seed. A 3 time qualifier gets a higher seed than a 2 timer.
All of the state qualifiers are restocked, no losses, and wrestle back upon a loss. Up until this point 2 losses and you're out unless you place in the top 3 for each level.
A single "state champ" is crowned.
Still, if you have a bad day and place 3rd in your district, you continue to have a chance. We've had champs go 3rd, 3rd, and win the tournament. It wasn't always that way, with 0 wrestlebacks there were frequent returning champs that may have caught a cold, wrestled off their game, took a loss and went home. Or, the top 2 kids were from the same district, the loser went home real early. Back then, rarely were the 2nd and 3rd placers the 2nd and 3rd best in the weight class. We had a 2 time returning champ dislocate his elbow the night before the district tournament in a freak incident. He ended up 3rd wrestling with one arm, but was out because of the loss. His arm was near 100% the following week. I also remember a returning state champ from another town that suffered a defensive pin in the district final while up something 22-2. The winner, knowing the champ was out, backed out of the region in order to let the champ move on. The kid retained his title, but only because this other kid opted not to go, letting the 2nd placer move on.
The worst part of the whole process - the finals aren't on television because the digbat state association demands to be paid for the right to air the bouts. The local state TV channel was there every year until the idiots out of Robbinsville got greedy.

I know. I would survive without the spotlight on the finals. The NCAA does it without a spotlight and it seems to go just fine. I absolutely hate the spot light. Too often the wrestlers are in working in shade. From a spectator perspective, I don't get the sense you're seeing all of the action. NJ did away with it because the fans complained there wasn't enough light to see the action.

NJ did away with it because the fans complained there wasn't enough light to see the action. It's terrible for the officials, especially on a dark colored mat. There are/were times you simply could not see if a kid was pinned. One time I made the school witha dark green mat turn on the lights in the gymnasium before I officiated the match. Just went to a high school regional duals finals last night with one of the stupid mat lights. Back when I officiated it was tough enough getting my glasses out of a pocket without having to also juggle with a flashlight!!

Michigan has four divisions of 116 or 117 teams. Division I is enrollment greater than 1393, division II between 1392 and 803, division III from 802 to 479, and division IV less than 478.
There are separate dual and individual tournaments.
For teams there are usually 4 teams in a district with the champion moving on to regionals. 4 teams form a region and the champion moves on to the state meet. The state meet is 8 teams in each division.
For individuals, there are roughly 15 teams in each individual district with the top 4 moving to regionals. Regionals are an 8 man bracket and the top 4 go to state. The state meet is a 16 man bracket.

Pennsylvania will never go back, and they can't run them at the same time.... not enough seats. They are run in alternating sessions....2A is Thurs. morning and evening, Frid. afternoon and Saturday morning finals. 3A is Thursday afternoon, Friday morning and evening and Saturday afternoon finals. They are all packed(the Giant Center is new, in Hershey, seats ~9,000) and all seats are great(The site is the home of the AHL Hershey Bears).
