What happened to Haze in the finals. He lost to a guy he beat every other time they wrestled. He majored Donahoe a week before the NCAA tournament in the Big Twelve.

I don't think wrestlers get tested at NCAAs. If they did, Donahoe would be my prime suspect

The way Haze appeared to be psyching up for the semifinal with Ness, Haze may have overlooked Donahoe. Duh yes I know, but Haze was warming up in the center of the circle for the semis!

Haze was trying not to lose. Donahoe beat Nickerson the same way. Keep it close and take one solid roll of the dice. Anyone has a chance in tie breaks or sudden victory.
Its hard to watch because you know if the better guys push the action and scrambles, they will win the majority of them.

Finalists (or at least Champions) were drug tested. They had to produce a urine sample afterwards.

Sometimes a wrestler will make an inspired championship run in a building where they've experienced past glories. Remember that Paul Donahoe won two state championships for Davison High in that building.

I think the ref didn't make Donahoe wrestle enough. His "keep it close and get one good shot in" worked. Haze needed to make it look even more obvious to the ref that stalling was going on. I think the NCAA needs to re-define what constitutes "stalling". There is way too much "not going on".

Donahoe didn't do much, but Haze did even less. Donahoe out shot him two shots to zero. If you bang both guys, I guess that would work, but to say Donahoe should have been banged and not Haze is ridiculous. I wanted to see Haze win as much as the next guy, but he didn't do anything.

I didn't count the shots. Stalling also involves who is doing most of the retreating and backing off of the mat. Many stall calls should have been made on both wrestlers (then again, once they started getting called, they probally would not have continued stalling so much.

Jensen, I could not have said it any better. I really wanted Haze to win, and I felt horrible for him after the match, but Donahoe outwrestled him and deserved it.

To say Haze lost the match is more accurate than saying Donahoe won. He looked tentative. Maybe, the pressure of the finals and his last chance to win the NCAAs got to him.
